No power during Sehri, Iftaar hours | By the way power is needed round the year! | | Early Times Report Bhaderwah, July 28: Former Minister and sitting Legislator Mohammad Sharief Niaz has demanded uninterrupted power supply during Ramadhan in the State. In a press communique issued here he said that it is very astonishing that the power supply is being interrupted during the Sehri and Iftaar hours of this holy month. He said that there is acute shortage of essential commodities and drinking water. He urged upon the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and ensure 24 hours power supply at least during Ramadhan. He further demanded supply of adequate ration in the far off areas of the State. Niaz’s concern is highly appreciated. However, the people need power round the year especially when they pay for it. Jammu Kashmir has diverse climate. Summers are very hot in summer and winter freezes every thing in Kashmir. While the Jammu people need power in summer to beat the scorching heat, the Kashmiris need it more in winter to keep them warm. The Government seems totally indifferent to the woes of the people in both the regions of the State. On the contrary the Chief Minister and the Chief Engineer of the Power Development Department (PDD) accused the general public of theft. They said 99% people stole power. One fails to understand where Chief Minister and the Chief Engineer placed themselves. The gravity of the problem can be gauged from the fact that the people of Vijaypur have threatened agitation for power. This is the first time when paucity of power has driven people out on the roads. But, as long as the mansions of Chief Minister, his Council of Ministers and the Army of bureaucrats enjoy uninterrupted power, the commoner has to suffer. He has to resort to agitation for ensuring proper irrigation, he has to raise his voice for power during the month of Ramadhan. But is anybody listening? |
