| Azad 'invisible' on J&K scene, loyalists in a state of tizzy | | Self inflicted obscurity or 'spanner' from New Delhi…..? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 28: Notwithstanding his 'loud' presence in various parts of J&K during the past few months this year, former Chief Minister and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has once again pushed himself into 'political obscurity' in so far as his frequent visits to State are concerned. Azad may have his own calculations for halt in such visits or this might well be so on account of a sudden 'snapper' from New Delhi for varied reasons, but his absence for a quite long time from J&K scene has sent his loyalists in a tizzy and guessing mode.
After fiasco of political shows in Bhaderwah, Kishtwar last month, Union Health Minister made such a hasty retreat to New Delhi that he has ever since not returned once, not for a single party function or any other occasion. He was not seen accompanying President Pranab Mukherjee when the latter came to J&K few days ahead of polling on canvassing mission to various States. His absence became conspicous as Azad is seen normally on the fore front of such visits and programmes where Congress party's political stakes are precious and prestigious.
This apart, at least three senior Union Cabinet Ministers have come to State during the last over two weeks , no matter on their individual assignments . Former Chief Minister did not accompany any one of them, even as one of the visiting Union Minister Kapil Sibal made his trip look purely as one of taking stock of party matters and where does the party stand in the political scenario existing at present in J&K, an assignment on which Azad's assessment on the ground level matters more than anyone else. His continuous absence from the political scene of J&K and halt in otherwise regular visits to J&K is worrying the leaders and supporters in his faction of J&K Congress as rumour mills have once again started cooking up all sorts of stories in the party corridors. What compounded the apprehensions of the supporters in Kashmir as Azad failed to keep his word despite assurance to one of the senior leaders in Kashmir who recently organized a huge political show in Sopore in which he wanted Azad to be the chief guest.
Pertinently, ever since his departure from the State four years back, Azad's visits often loaded with heavy 'political dosages' for both his own party as well as critical comments on working of coalition are invariably seen by media and political pundits as his strong ambitions to return into the fold of J&K politics , no matter he has been denying that role outwardly every now and then. How much this speculation and observation holds true is something to be seen in practical terms not before 2014. But the fact remains that notwithstanding his 'bigger role in Union Ministry as also in political assignments of the party, Azad has shown keen interest in attending every small , big political functions organized mostly by the supporters and loyalists of his faction in J&K Congress. Azad too has been seen coming to J&K more often than not with visiting dignitaries from New Delhi, as most important accomplice, he being the son of the soil. |
