Elsewhere exam rackets are smashed, in J&K scandalous enjoy impunity | J&K enjoys "special status" ! | | Bashir Assad Srinagar, July 28: It sounds strange but true it is; special status under Article 370 of the Constitution of India provides impunity even to the scandalous officials and those involved in entrance exam cheating scandals, that has of late, raised questions not only about test scrutiny but about the status symbol of over-ambitious parents who at the cost of merit and meritorious want to see their wards in professional colleges. It is now established political belief that Jammu and Kashmir's special status guaranteed under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution is being exploited for all evil purposes and usefulness, if any, has been subjected to erosions and intrusions. See how; honest and hardworking students are taking a back seat to the cheaters in Common Entrance Test (CET) 2012 conducted by J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE). And when this scandal was unearthed, Government turned deaf and dumb as if scribes who took lead in exposing the racket were beating around the bush. About 13 or 14 high achiever candidates from a single district were actually under achievers in their academic carrier and even brokers were identified to whom the parents of these candidates paid hefty sums to see their wards in. Soon, reports of CET scam poured in from every nook and corner of the State for as many as 50 candidates qualifying the high profile exam disbelievingly. However, what was suspicious manner of counseling-BOPEE indulged in even after the reports that question papers were put on virtual sale and the sell out has benefited the highest bidders and yet no action was taken obviously because the State enjoys special status and the people at the helm of affairs enjoy impunity therein otherwise AIIMS racket involving leak of post graduate medical entrance papers that surfaced in January this year was no different from BOPEE scam. It merits a mention here that in January this year Delhi Police smashed a racket involving leak of post graduate medical entrance papers using bluetooth technology with the arrest of many candidates and officials. The gang, which charged Rs 25-35 lakh from aspirants, allegedly used a sophisticated software to email images of the question paper taken by two MBAs, posing as PG aspirants, using mobile phones and Bluetooth concealed in their shirts. The racket was smashed while the entrance test conducted by AIIMS for filling 50 per cent of PG seats in Government medical colleges across the country was going on at 156 centers. Anyway, a thriving exam racket involving some officials and private brokers came to light in the premier BOPEE. The racket has helped children of influential parents who were under achievers in their academic carrier. Rumours about the shocking academic malpractice that flourished through pseudo revaluation exercises were widely doing the rounds for the past three years. However, for the first time, brokers were named which should have emerged as evidence but that does not happen because we are enjoying "special status". |
