| No action taken even after two years | | Embezzlements in Central Cooperative Bank branch Yaripora | | Jammu | Feb 4 Even after lapse of two years government has failed to take action against officials involved in embezzlement of about Rs 4 crore as indicated by an Inspection team from NABARD which visited the bank on January 15 2004. A fourth class employee who was working as cashier in the branch is being made a scap goat for the misappropriation committed during two years. A Jammu based news agency today reported that the inspection report, the copy of which is with this agency, besides showing misappropriation of about Rs 4 crore has clearly indicated the involvement of than branch General Manager Central Cooperative Bank Anantnag, Branch Manger Ghulam Mohammad Bhat and Advance manger A R Ganie and other two officials including the Cashier who despite being a fourth class employee was asked to work at the counter by his seniors. Right at the out set, repots says “Ex. Branch Manger Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, presently transferred to Ex-tension Counter Harman who remained in the branch for about 15 years has treated this a personal Business and all the transactions were delivered on personal relations, resulting into huge embezzlements”. The investigating team besides pointing out fraudulent withdrawals of Rs3.56 lakh has also indicated that Loan worth crores of Rupees have been released to individuals and societies without proper sanction. . The Report indicates that only under Cash credit Individual amounts to a whooping sum of Rs 830.43 crore out of which Rs 471.25 crore has turned into Non Performing asset. “ It has been observed that the Branch has violated all the norms rules during the disbursement of Loan and has least bothered to complete the formalities from the borrowers before releasing the loan” report says, adding “ in this way the branch staff has played mis utilized the public funds for their own interests” Sources within the Bank say that even though the report was submitted to the General Manger Farooq Ahmed Khan, but he did not take any action against the branch Manger and others except suspending a fourth class employee making him a scape goat. However, when a case against the General Manger himself was registered in the Accountability Commission he submitted the report before it only on December 13 2006. |
