Centre allocates additional quota of ration for welfare institutions | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 29 : The Centre has allocated additional quota of ration for distribution among welfare institutions in Jammu and Kashmir for the current financial year under a new Welfare Scheme launched by the State Government. The government has announced the launch of a new scheme for the first time in the state under which foodgrains shall be provided to all Welfare Institutions of the state on Below Poverty Line (BPL) rates. Officials said foodgrains shall be distributed to orphanages, bal ashrams, nari niketans where the orphans are putting up and are being looked after by private individuals or civil society members. Ration would be provided to Gujjar Bakerwal, hostels for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes and other welfare institutions run by Social Welfare Department. Appreciating the services being rendered by Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Trust (JKYT), Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA & PD) Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon said these people were working for a noble cause and are rendering yeoman's service for the betterment of young adolescent girls putting up at Gulshan-e-Banat, Gopalpora Chadoora. He said the government will encourage such orphanages, bal ashrams and nari niketans by providing them basic facilities under norms. Responding to the demands of the Chief Patron JKYT, Zahoor Ahmad Tak and other representatives of various welfare institutions, the Minister asked them to submit a list of total inmates putting up and being looked after in these institutions along with the requirement of monthly food grains for appropriate action. Tak while giving the details of activities carried out by the Yateem Trust said that the trust has completed 40 years of its existence and was serving the deserving people with sincerity. He said the trust was looking after 10 orphanages all over the state where both boys and girls were being provided boarding and lodging facilities besides quality education. Better healthcare facilities are also being provided to the inmates in these Institutions run by the Yateem Trust. Referring to Gulshan-e-Banat, Tak said 125 girls from Kashmir Valley and Doda, Kishtwar and Baderwah areas of Jammu region, who all were orphans, were presently putting up in the Institution. |
