| Farooq Abdullah expresses condolence at Thakur’s demise | | | Jammu | Feb 4 National Conference patron and senior leader Dr Farooq Abdullah has expressed grief over the sad demise of Devi Das Thakkar, former deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Abdullah, who is presently outside the state said that with the death of Thakur the state has lost a visionary leader and great legal luminary. A wreath on behalf of National Conference patron was laid by senior NC leader Aslam Goni, who was present at the cremation of the departed leader. Goni also expressed sorrow at the demise of the senior leader of the state and said that his vision and guidance would be missed by the state. DD Thakkar, who served as former Governor of Assam and former deputy chief minister J&K died yesterday at Chandigarh. Thakkar was 76 and he is survived by his wife Saraswati Thakur, two sons justice Tirath Singh Thakkar and leading advocate Dheeraj Singh Thakur and five daughters. Thakur was born in 1930 at village Batroo in Ramban tehsil of Doda district. He started his career as a lawyer in Ramban and joined Praja Socialist Party. he became a judge of the state high court in 1973 and served the Court with distinction. Thousands of people from all walks of life today paid their last respects to the departed soul. Senior leaders, political activists and legal luminaries were present in large numbers to pay their homage. |
