Power yet to reach J&K, NC leaders begin drum-beating
7/29/2012 11:54:16 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 29: Even before state government could take practical steps towards buying electricity worth Rs. 200 crore, leadership of National Conference (NC) has begun drum beating over 'gracious and generous step' of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The language used by the NC leadership clearly indicates that the party is going to pay from its kitty this huge amount for the purchase of electricity. Political observers do not mince words while saying that NC has always considered J&K State its personnel property. So, even if the Chief Minister does something which he is constitutionally bound to do, NC is going to make all efforts to sell it to the commoners.
Tanvir Sadiq, the NC leader and spokesman who ridiculed Abdullahs when he was in PDP is now singing peens of Omar and his father Farooq Abdullah. His comment that Omar Abdullah has vision for the state and passion to pursue it makes no sense since it is Omar's fourth year in office as head of the state government and he hardly has time left to pursue his undisclosed mission.
Power has been a major issue whenever NC took over reigns of administration. Now this latest salvo is aimed at quelling the protests which recently shook some parts of Kashmir valley. It hardly needs to be mentioned here that Jammu has been protesting against the unscheduled curtailment of power from the last many years but to no avail. Come Monsoon and people of Jammu are seen on the roads demanding adequate power.
Nation Conference spokesman Tanvir Sadiq has called the immediate action of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah where he announced Rs. 200 crore to procure extra power to reduce the gap and mitigate the sufferings of the people as a step highly generous and munificent but one may question him, when will this extra power reach J&K. He need to be told that Omar Sahib's announcement and immediate implementation in providing extra power in the holy month of Ramzan does not show his magnanimity and commitment towards the welfare of the people but indicate political compulsion.
He has further said that when Aggregate Transmission and Commercial (ATC) losses are at whopping 62%, one should appreciate that even then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as a Ramzan Gift. He should go back and ask the PDD to furnish details of defaulters. Sadiq would find names of all the NC leaders in it. No doubt, the average unit we buy and the average unit we sell creates a huge loss to the exchequer, even then the State is the 2nd cheapest to sell power to consumers yet it is commoners who are paying.
Sadiq called the PDP an 'Evil force" hell bent to spread lies to take the state to ruins. He needs to be asked if NC believes in democracy or not. Opposition plays a critical role in any democratic set-up. So, PDP is also doing the same job. NC would do good to remind itself that its leaders are unable to read the writing on the wall and it is they who have the threat of getting wiped out by people politically.
