Omar now gets rebuff from Antony | | | early time report Jammu, July 29: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who had given selective leaks to a national English daily on how northern command was prepared for selective lifting for AFPSA got a stern but polite rebuff from the defence minister on this account. Defence Minister, known for standing with the Army, didn't mince any word about it, though the issue was raked by the Chief Minister in the meeting held in Srinagar on Saturday. Omar tried to make his point by pointing that that tourism has been in full swing and there has not been any major terrorist incidents in the valley especially in Srinagar and Jammu. The defence minister though gave patient hearing but did not say word in the issue. Defence minister had gone by the brief given to him the top brass of the Army, which is not in favour of even partial revocation of the Army. Omar Abdullah to building media pressure and perception about his demand had given selective leak to national daily that a while Northern Command, which is responsible for the security grid in the state, was prepared to accept his demand but the Army establishment in Delhi didn't give nod to it. He even had said that Army establishment even didn't give them date for an appointment to discuss the issue. Chief Minister had been trying to adopt confrontation mode with the Army in a hope that Central leadership will make Army to give up its stand. He had tried to use the service of his friend i.e Union Home Minister but to no use till this date. Omar must have by now got to understand that Indian government doesn't work on the whims and fancies and especially political demand of an individual as it has to look after the security of the entire nation. He had put his weight behind this issue and had used every trick in the hat but all have fallen flat. The CM should now rather focus on positive and development oriented work which has the potential of giving political benefits rather than rhetoric's on which he had been banking till now.
