early times report
jammu/srinagar, July 30 : Three days before the conclusion of the annual Amarnath yatra, the smallest batch till now comprising of only 36 pilgrims left for the 3,888 metre high cave shrine today, meanwhile with just three days left for final darshan of the self made Ice-Shivlingam in the holy Amar-nath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, a fresh batch of 950 yatris today left from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the cave, where so far about 6.15 lakh pilgrims had darshan since the commencement of the yatra from June 25. With a mobile security escort of CRPF, the pilgrims comprising 26 men, six women and four children left in two vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at around 0440 hours, a police official said. The convoy of the yatra has already crossed Ramban on the Jammu- Sri-nagar National highway towards base camps of Pahalgam in the Kashmir Valley. With to-day's batch, as many as 91,479 pilgrims have left Jammu for their onward journey to the cave shrine.
The yatra is going on smoothly and so far over six lakh pilgrims have offered prayers at the shrine housing the naturally formed ice 'shivlingam' since the pilgrimage commenced on June 25. The yatra will conclude on August 2, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. Meanwhile despite intermittent rain on both routes, the pilgrimage was going on smoothly, a yatra official said. A Met department spokesman said there would be one or two spell of rains on Baltal-Cave and Pahalgam cave tracks during the next 24 hours, when the sky will remain cloudy.
A yatra official said despite rain and cold, 572 pilgrims left Baltal base camp this morning for the cave shrine. He said 370 yatris, including women, children and sadhus, left Nunwan Pahalgam for Chan-danwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route.
He said those yatris who had night halt at different halting stations enroute also started their onward journey this morning while those who had darshan also started their return journey. Majority of those who had darshan of the self made Ice-Shivalingam have returned to their homes.
