Changing dynamics of Indian marriages | | | Pankhuri Aggarwal It is not about being ill, can a fever be healthy? of course yes when it comes to marriage! But going straight to the symptoms, effects and reactions. What can be said about the marriage steps? Many things. As the economy is running more towards modernization, the public fashion towards marriages are becoming more vast and moreover westernized. The marriages which are taking place now a days are more focussed on impressions and testimonials about feeling and status rather than watching out own sentiments and budget. The number of marriages surged to a higher as it is belief that this year is the ' year of two springs' is a good time to get married. Marriages have become a grand affair, with the triggering time, the celebration is becoming more royal. People are hiring wedding planners without worrying about the money. Dashing clad with gold buttons, brocade achkan, wearing a saffron turban, decorated with jewellery and handicraft modh emblazoned by sun is the attire selected for the groom. He is been accomplished by his family in a royal buggy with flags, chatri and bearers. To make the marriage memorable and more grand they even arrange for some celebrities like Shahrukh khan or Akshay kumar, who show up themselves for just fifteen minutes and carve out half of the money of the whole wedding planned. Marriage has become an accessory to show off the world. It's like a product which comes with a money back guarantee. " Wedding planners are behaving like travelling salesman packing their suitcases and going from one place to another, showing the same collection everywhere", said Reema Kapoor, a bussiness women. Marriages has seen a dynamic transition over the years. Rising disposable incomes, increasingly demanding conditions and lifestyles have been the growth drivers for the industry till now and will continue to be so. " Our ceremonies are centuries old, they are sacrosanct. We would dare not break them. We perform the same rituals but in an entirely different and a creative manners."said Ritu Raj, a designer and a wedding planner. " It has become a bazaar of show off. I at times feel frustrated seeing same things all in all but if the marriages are simple, we feel what a mismatch it was, and we tag the marriages as not a good one, it has become the demand of the hour," said priya, a student. In other words, marriages have become a fashion. It is all about putting up a show, with the right dose of entertainment and sponsors who are ready to plug on. It is a result of time creativity and exclusively reclaimed fashion. |
