Baig replies private members bill on Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board
8/1/2006 7:29:45 PM

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 01 – Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig today assured the House that its feelings on the alleged cases of misuse by the officers of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine board would be conveyed to the Chairman of the Board through the Speaker.
Replying to a private members’ bill moved by Mir Saifullah to “amend Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Act, 1988 and Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Act, 2000”, Mr. Baig said the Board should have given priority to the residents of the state while nominating members to the Board. He said though both the Boards are autonomous institutions free from government interference, they are not exempted from legislative scrutiny. He said the boards have to abide the laws and regulations of the state government and no ambiguity or discrepancy would be allowed. There is no scope for a vetican within the state, he added.
