Army promises impartial, probe into Bandipora killing | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 30 : The Army authorities in Kashmir today assured that an impartial and thorough probe would be conducted into the death of Hilal Ahmad Dar during a firing incident in north Kashmir district of Bandipora during intervening night of July 34 and 25. The killing evoked massive protests across the Kashmir valley as people of the area alleged that Hilal was an innocent who was killed by Army without any provocation. However, the Army said Hilal was a militant killed in an encounter with an ambush party. A press release issued by the Army here this afternoon said Army authorities, upholding the sentiments of the people, have ordered a thorough probe headed by a Senior Officer to investigate into the incident of Ashtingoo, Bandipora on the night of 24/25 July 2012, in which Hilal Ahmad Dar of Village Aloosa had died. The probe will consider all the aspects of the incident including inputs from people and Jammu and Kashmir Police and an earnest endeavour will be made to bring out the truth. Depending on the outcome of the investigations, action will be taken as per the law of the land. While reassuring of fair and transparent investigation into the incident, the Army authorities reiterated that the Army is committed towards peace in the Valley and security, well being and dignity of the people. Notwithstanding the outcome of this incident, the Army has conveyed its full sympathies towards the aggrieved family for Hilal's death. The Army also stated that it is fully cooperating with the Police investigations. The government has already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. Kashmir valley observed a shut down on Saturday in protest against the killing of Hilal. |
