NC's delay tactics in 'political appointments' taking toll on Congress | Coordination eludes between ruling allies | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 30: NC-Congress coalition Government's credibility has reached its lowest ebb with both parties despite being alliance partners are working and functioning at all levels in the Government in almost opposite directions. Coordination on key political matters between the two major allies in the Government remains elusive as the high level coordination committee to sort out issues has become non existent and turned virtually defunct. Sources said the JKPCC leadership has conveyed its serious concern to certain quarters in Delhi the way ruling NC is working and taking unilateral decisions, undermining the existence of Congress as equal partner. Sources said in addition to the pending issues of appointments at higher levels in some corporations in which Congress has been on receiving end , NC is not paying any heed to what Congress leadership has been asking for as a matter of right. Sources said Congress leadership in a recently held informal meeting with NC high command took exception to NC having taken unilateral decision on appointment of Yousuf Khan, ex-chairman of J&K Bank as chairman of Power Development Corporation without seeking consent of congress. The leadership is also fuming over the fact that NC in principle had agreed to appoint Vice Chairman of the Corporation from the Congress but a formal decision and order still eludes . There are other corporations in which the issue of appointments has been discussed umpteenth times in the Coordination Committee meetings but still hanging in air as NC has been dithering and showing cold shoulder for one or the other reason. Insiders in the NC say that high command is deliberately adopting the policy of deferment and delay in taking final decisions on such appointments as it suits the party on more than one count. It cannot afford to lose order in the party by handpicking only few for such posts as the list of contenders is long in the ruling party. However, this approach is impacting Congress adversely as it is this party which has to be major beneficiary of these pending appointments, NC already having grabbed the lion's share in one or the other way, sources said . Nevertheless what is taking toll of the Congress leadership is the pressure building at various levels from strong contenders and aspirants of whom a list has almost been prepared by the leadership. Ironically in almost all the meetings of Coordination Committee held in past the issue of pending appointments was raised and discussed with the members of alliance partner who neither ruled out nor approved anything every time about all the pending issues, sources in Congress party said. Even more ironic is the fact that no meeting of Coordination Committee of which J&K PCC chief is the chairman, has taken place for a long time this year, perhaps not even once in Srinagar the capital city where seat of governance is working. |
