Harsh ridicules Govt claims of improvement in power situation
7/30/2012 11:31:29 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 30: Ridiculing the haughty and supercilious claims made by the state government and the Chief Minister regarding improvement of power position in the state by having reportedly provided Rs 200 crore for enhanced power supply, Panthers Party Working Chairman and MLA Harsh Dev Singh said today that the ground situation was highly pathetic with power scenario having deteriorated further during the last couple of days after the said announcement.
In a press statement issued here today, Singh regretted that the unprecedented power cuts being affected in Jammu region during the ongoing summer season had caused tremendous hardships and inconvenience to the common man. Strongly flaying the callous and insensitive attitude of the Power Dev. Deptt., he said that the people of Jammu region are made to suffer the worst nightmares due to scorching heat and soaring humidity with no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power cuts. He said that the students are the worst sufferers particularly those preparing for the various examinations.
He regretted that despite persistent appeals to the govt. to adhere to scheduled calendar on power supply and the repeated assurances of the govt. , no action has been taken by the latter thus adding to the woes and miseries of common man. He said that the Jammu region was the major sufferer with the govt. and its ministers being mute spectators in the face of a critical and crisis like situation.
Lambasting the govt. for its highly parochial and biased approach, Mr. Singh pointed towards the most obnoxious aspects of power distribution within the state. Citing figures, he said that the power consumption between Jammu and Kashmir regions is in the ration of 40:60 respectively but when it comes to revenue realization Jammu contributes more than 66% of power tariff with barely 33 % coming from Kashmir region.
He said that the figures of last three years provided to him in the last Assembly session regarding region wise power consumption and revenue realization revealed startling facts and are indicated below:
Region wise energy consumption and Revenue realization for the year 2009-10 to 2011-12
Year Energy consumed Revenue realized
(In MUs) (Rs. In crores)
Jammu Kashmir Total Jammu Kashmir Total
2009-10 4653.021 5729.784 10382.805 507.62 314.92 822.10
2010-11 4744.026 5923.199 10367.225 587.18 363.00 950.18
2011-12 4620.197 5581.068 10201.265 557.11 384.03 941.14

Singh said that the aforesaid facts provided in Budget session of Assembly categorically indicate the highly biased, parochial and discriminatory approach of the state government with regard to supply of power and revenue collection vis a vis the two regions of the state.
He said that the power supply to Jammu region has been further curtailed during 2012-13 due to highly prejudicial and callous approach of helmsmen.
He vowed to fight such discriminatory tactics tooth and nail and said that the people of Jammu would strongly oppose the highly obnoxious treatment doled out to Jammu region in yet another field of power.
