PUC reviews functioning of Corporation, directs for maintenance of assets

SRINAGAR, July 31: The Committee on Public Undertakings (PUC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly which met here today under the Chairmanship of MLA Abdul Majeed Wani stressed upon the officers of J&K Tourism Development Corporation Limited ( JKTDC) to ensure maintenance of assets including huts across the State.
The Committee discussed in detail on functioning of the JKTDC besides various audit paras of the Corporation. Legislators, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Mohammad Irfan Shah, Ch. Zulfkar Ali, Bharat Bushan and Dr. Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri) gave their valuable suggestions to improve the functioning of JKTDC. The panel expressed satisfaction over the performance of the Corporation however it stressed for improvement in Online Reservation System to monitor the revenue realization and providing of standard quality services to the tourists. After satisfactory reply by the Corporation, the Committee dropped few audit paras. Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Attul Duloo and Managing Director JKTDC, Satish Nehru briefed the Committee about the achievements registered by the Tourism Department and Corporation so far. It was informed in the meeting that the JKTDC has earned the record profit of Rs.3.79 crore during 2011-12. It was also informed that the Corporation has generated net revenue of Rs.11.95 crore till June 2012 as against Rs. 9.43 crore during the corresponding period 2011-12 which is Rs.2.52 crore more earned by the Corporation.
It was also informed that the performance of Online Reservation System has shown improvement due to constant monitoring and upgrading the same. Against revenue receipt of Rs.19 lakh through online Reservation System during 2008-09, it has reached to the tune of Rs.2.55 core during 2011-12, the meeting was told. During the current year up to July, the revenue through online system has reached Rs.2.30 crore.
