Shinde's first statement as HM not inspiring
Terror Is Terror

JAMMU, Aug 1: Sushil Kumar Shinde who today took over from P Chidambaram as Home Minister is unlikely to deviate from the path his predecessor charted during his controversial period in the North Block. In other words, it is extremely likely that Shinde will pursue the Chidambaram line as far as Islamic and Maoists terrorists/dreaded Naxalites are concerned. Shinde today said that the greatest danger to India is from the Naxals. This is what Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his predecessor had been saying for years now. Like them, Shinde didn't say a word against the Pakistani-sponsored Islamic terrorists, as also against Kashmiri and other communalists who, like the Maoist terrorists, are also posing a grave threat to the unity and integrity of India. The Islamic terrorists have taken away thousands of Indian lives during the past 22 years or so and attacked not only the soft targets but also highly protected buildings, including the Indian Parliament.
It is now established that there is a nexus between the Maoist terrorists and Islamic terror outfits and that they are working in unison in several areas of the country, including the sensitive north-eastern States. Countries like China, Pakistan and Bangladesh are giving them maximum possible support so that they could create anarchy in India and accomplish their evil designs. Both China and Pakistan consider India as their number one enemy. They leave no stone unturned to destabilize the Indian polity. Both the countries have territorial ambitions. While Pakistan wants to grab Jammu & Kashmir in order to establish its control over the invaluable Indus waters, China has not only fixed its evil eyes on Ladakh, but also on Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. In fact, Beijing has its evil eyes fixed on the entire Himalayan region.
Besides, both Pakistan and China are using the Northern Areas or the Gilgit-Baltistan region to weaken the Indian position on its northern frontiers. As far as Bangladesh is concerned, it has over the period also become a hub of anti-India activities. It has developed interest in West Bengal and north-eastern States which have been witnessing huge influx of Bangladeshis. They have changed the demographic character of the north-east to a considerable extent. Only yesterday, BJP veteran and former Deputy Chief Minister LK Advani warned that any laxity on the part of New Delhi would enable Bangladeshis to convert as many as 11 Assam districts into Muslim-majority. The fundamental factor that resulted in violence in Assam two weeks ago and which resulted in at least 57 deaths and migration of over 4 lakh innocent civilians to safer places was the immediate result of the conflict between the Bangladeshis and the locals, including Bodos.
Even the politically unstable Nepal is being used by anti-India forces for creating more and more troubles in India. Many Islamic terrorists have infiltrated into India through Nepal, also called safe heaven for extremists of all varieties. Besides, there are elements in Nepal who are hand-in-glove with the Maoist terrorists. China has its pockets of influence in the Himalayan State, which was the only Hindu kingdom not so-long-ago.
That Shinde thought it desirable to refer to the threat to India from the Maoist terrorists or Naxals and gave a clean chit to the radical Islamists speaks for itself. Terrorists are terrorists, whatever be their ideology and religious denomination, and they need to be dealt with accordingly. But the problem is that the country is in the hands of the Congress which is known for its policy of appeasement.
