JAMMU, Aug 1: Uprooted roads..., unevenly spread construction material in the middle of roads, messed up lanes and by lanes in residential areas, unending traffic jams compounded by mismanagement and inability of cops to regulate movement of vehicles... and the monsoon blues with unpredictable heavy showers that have turned the entire city road surfaces into open sewers... Pass from any area of the city and you would counter a filthy scenario that has come to stay in the winter capital for over four months .
These are only a few problems which have lately assumed menacing proportions in all areas and left Jammu, called with pride by our politicians as winter capital in complete anarchy and chaotic conditions. From small school children to petty vendors, shopkeepers to residents sitting on dilapidated scenario, public transporters to private vehicle owners... every fumes in anger and curse the Government for turning the face of the city into hell -ironically in the name of the development.
While the NC led Government coalition Government brags and boasts about some initiatives taken during its tenure terming these as 'achievements', the winter capital sulks in..., fumes in anger and scoffs at the defunct system that has made absence of Jammu based Ministers and Government in general menacingly conspicuous. Thanks to an unconcerned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his cohorts who are either blissfully ignorant of hellish life experienced by the people in winter capital on various accounts or simply turning blind eye to the plight they too come to face during 'flying visits'. Why on earth would they be bothered at the moment because everything would be normal or just 'patched up' for smooth drives by the time they come with their Durbaar in the winter capital. All that 'mantries' are doing in the name of showing concern is giving fresh instructions and deadlines to menacing development agencies to complete their work within deadlines, which have since been extended over a hundred times.
It is a typical example of 'Andher Nagri...' where no department listens to another nor is any sign of coordination in sight anywhere. Divisional Administration has simply turned invisible, making all those menacing machines and their men as masters enjoy a sadistic ride on the roads while they ruthlessly go about digging and bruising the roads again and again, one wonders for what and why. There is in fact no one to ask them. The uprooted roads and pathetic plight is something one has got used to witness on all roads. However, it gets painful and agonizing on the roads when traffic gets blocked for hours, as it happened on posh Residency Road, adjacent Gujjar Nagar area, which heavily impacted the movement from all sides right upto Jewel Chowk, Gumat area and nearby Bus Stand area. Vehicles remained still for hours and cops unmoved, unable to handle the crisis like situation. Poor school children, sweating and fuming, some of them crying could be seen carrying heavy bags and alighting from the buses as these could not reach actual stops due to jam. School children have been facing this ordeal for the last two days as there is no space for driving from Gujjar Nagar area. Anarchy and chaos are too simple words to describe the scene prevalent everywhere. Common people wonder how long this ordeal inflicted in the name of development would continue. |
