Holy mace leaves for Panjtarni for final darshan of Ice-Shivlingam | | | early times report SRINAGAR, Aug 1:Holy silver Mace of Lord Shiva today left Sheshnag for Panjtarni, the last halting station on traditional Pahalgam route for final darshan of the self made Ice-Shivlingam in the Amarnath cave shrine tomorrow on the occasion of Rakshabandan. Covering a distance of about 12 km on foot from Chandnawari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route, the Chhari-Mubarak reached Sheshnag, 3352 mtrs above sea level yesterday. Despite intermittent rains, cloudy sky and cold, 'Vedic hymns and bam bam Bolay' rented in the air when 'Chhari-Mubarak' left Sheshanag for Panjtarni (3657 mtrs) this morning. Mahant Deependra Giri, custodian of the Chhari Mubarak, was joined by a large number of sadhus and other devotees when the Chhari left the Sheshnag to cover a distance of 13.4 km to reach Panjterni. Mahant Giri alongwith other devotees will carry the Charri from Panjterni to inside the Cave shrine tomorrow after covering a distance of six km on foot. Before starting the journey from Sheshnag Mahant Giri said he and other devotees will pray for peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. He lauded the role of locals and said without their support the yatra would not have been successful. People of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly from the valley always remained attached with the yatra. They helped the success of the pilgrimage this year too, he said. He said tomorrow traditional rituals will be performed and prayers shall be offered the whole day at holy cave. However, before dusk, Chhari-Mubarak start return journey and will have night halt at Panjtarni. From Panjtarni, Chhari-Mubarak will leave at 0700 hrs for night halt at Pahalgam. 'Pujan' and 'Visarjan' ceremonies will be performed at 0915 hrs on the bank of river Lidder in Pahalgam. Thereafter, traditional 'Kari-Pakouri' Bhandara will be organised for Sadhus. With this last ritual, annual pilgrimage of Swami Amarnath shall culminate. Chhari-Mubarak will return to its Shri Amareshwar temple at Akhara Building abode at Srinagar. |
