Locals resist MC Kishtwar over afresh sanitation charges | | | early times report kishtwar, Aug 1 : People of Kishtwar and shopkeepers resist the fresh imposition of sanitation charges by the officials of Municipal Committee Kishtwar that has imposed new sanitation tax Rs 30 for domestic charges and Rs 50 for commercial. People and shopkeepers in Kishtwar out rightly rejected the demand of the Municipal Committee with the alleged that Municipal Committee Kishtwar has failed to keep the city clean. They further alleged despite availability of good resources, MC Kishtwar has utterly failed to utilize them to generate revenue but is putting pressure people of the Kishtwar. Traders alleged atleast 50 shops has been constructed by said committee some 5 years ago, but they yet have not been auctioned. The people said that due to causal approach of the officials of the department, MC Kishtwar suffers revenue loss to the tune of Rs. 50 lakhs since last 5 years. When contacted Abdul Latief Trak, Executive Officer MC Kishtwar said that the sanitation charges demanded by the MC Kishtwar is in accordance to the law passed by the government of Jammu and Kashmir and added sanitation charges collected from the people will be utilized for the beautification of Kishtwar town. He however said defaulter shall face the tune as applicable under law, even their licenses could be revoked, besides legal action against the defaulters. |
