From stop signal, Jammuites finally get 'green' signal for traffic lights | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 2: Finally, the 'city of temples' will too have regulated movement of traffic on the city roads with the formal launch of the traffic signal lights at some selected interactions from Friday. The response of the motorists and general people are awaiting enthusiastically for the new system and they wish the things on roads will become streamlined across the city. The city of temples till date is known for haphazard traffic but officials of the transport department, traffic police officials and city residents are sitting with their fingers crossed to see the new traffic signal takes off smoothly and faces no hiccups on the first day of the launch. To avoid any confusion and keeping in view the condition of city roads in mind on day 1 only 10 traffic light signals would be formally launched and gradually signals installed in other places would be made functional in the coming days. A total number of 30 traffic signal lights have been installed by the private company to ensure smooth flow of traffic on congested city roads. Meanwhile city traffic police authorities are also fully geared up to educate motorists about the need to follow traffic signal lights and avoid jumping the light to avoid penalty. No VVIP would be allowed to jump the red light signal ans necessary instructions have been passed to the drivers and escort parties to adhere to the discipline to set right the system. Meanwhile, before realizing the dream of installing traffic signal lights the city denizens waited for so long and now hoping to see smooth flow of traffic on the city roads even during peak hours. It is a welcome step, though late but we are excited to see the traffic signal lights in our city as well and further wish to see regulated traffic on the busy roads, said Shivam Mahajan, a local trader. |
