Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 2: Pakistan Army handed over the body of Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector (SI), Sunil Khajuria, who had gone missing on July 27 under mysterious circumstances from new Akhnoor Bridge under Ghrota police jurisdiction few days ago.
Pakistan Army handed over the body to Indian Army here today after flag meeting held between officials of both the nations at forward post of Pallanwala. "The body was later handed over to the police and the family members of deceased for last rites. The body was fished out from river Chenab by Pakistan Army after they received request from Indian side in their assistance in recovering the dead body.
However, Ghrotapolice has registered a case under Section 174 CrPC to ascertain the cause of death.
Police sources said that Sunil got job in police under SRO 43, the compassionate job following death of his father ASI Krishan Lal Khajuria in an encounter in Srinagar.
A resident of Shiv Nagar, Sunil, was posted in the Akhnoor Road area under the jurisdiction of Bakshi Nagar police station on Amarnath duty. He was last seen on July 27 by an Army jawan, who was on sentry duty at the Akhnoor Bridge entrance. Sunil had parked his car on the bridge and the jawan had objected to it. But Sunil said he would be back soon after attending the call of nature.
However, when he did not return even after an hour, the matter was brought to the notice of Army officers, who then took up the issue with police. The police had launched search operations and a 25-member National Disaster Rescue Team was also called on Sunday to carry out the operation.
The team members searched for the missing SI in the river from Akhnoor to Pargwal but failed to get any clue in this regard.
Police sources said the search was underway but it was difficult to trace him as water level in the Chenab was above normal due to rains.
