'KREDA allots work worth Rs 153 crores to Delhi based company against norms' | In Kargil, state govt orders not applicable | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 3: A day after the ' prejudiced' appointments in sports category where in Jammu its have been preferred over Kashmiris, the discrimination though in another format has come to surface now from Kargil region where Kashmir1 contractors are allegedly being denied work in the state owned Hydroelectric Projects and surprisingly all the works have been allotted to ' blue eyed' Delhi based contractors, thus ignoring the government directives of reserving some works for the local contractors. A delegation of contractors said that the KREDA allotted work of all 11 hydro projects to hydro power companies from Delhi. "This is discrimination with Kashmir based hydro power companies as we qualified the bidding process. The government had reserved the construction work of these projects for state subjects, but the KREDA threw all norms to wind." They alleged. J&K Government in 2005 under order number: 205 had given sanction that up to 10 MW mini hydro projects can be constructed by locals."However, the KREDA has given preference to a single Delhi based company and that too for a whopping projects of 153 crore rupees. Two Kashmiri companies who had qualified the bidding process were denied work," the contractors claimed. They alleged that the authorities in Kargil are not willing to take the state government's orders seriously, saying that it was the Kargil Hill Development Council who holds the reigns there. The contractors cautioned that if government did not take a serious note of it, things would turn ugly in the days to come. |
