Scared by PDP grand show, NC victimizes Ansari | | | Bashir Assad srinagar, Aug 3: Immaterial whether opposition PDP leader Maulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari got trapped in the net of his own creation by raising the issue of wetland encroachments in Assembly's budget session, National Conference, disturbed by the massive rally of PDP in Srinagar on July 30, exploited the House Pannel as a tactical weapon to haunt the principal opposition party. According to sources National Conference led coalition Government was embarrassed by July 30 rally of PDP at TRC ground in Srinagar on the eve of its 13th foundation day as the rally turned into a grand show because of the huge public response. According to insiders it was for the first time since 2004 that PDP organized such a massive public meeting at Srinagar. Pertinently in April 2004 PDP had organized a massive public meeting at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar which was addressed by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. However, July 30 rally was more important for PDP in the sense that in 2004, the party was sharing power and this time it is in opposition. Insiders maintain that massive rally was the outcome of collective efforts of PDP cadres because after a pretty long time Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari and Tariq Hameed Karra took pains in making the rally a grand success. What was shocking for NC was the unity show of the warring leaders Ansari and Karra who are the only faces of PDP in Srinagar city. Karra known for his organizational ability was coordinating the foundation day rally and Ansari, having strong foothold in two or three Assembly segments of the summer capital, too was instrumental in mobilizing his workers. It is widely perceived that scared by PDP's unity show National Conference used the platform of House Committee to built pressure on the opposition by victimizing Ansari and disintegrate the party from within as around 4 legislators from PDP not knowing the actual game plan, were party to the decision of the House Committee asking Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to lock Ansari's under-construction complex, notwithstanding the fact that on either side of Panthachowk-Parimpora stretch of by-pass, National Conference people and close relatives of NC leadership have constructed automobile showrooms and sale centres illegally in gross violation of law of the land. There is a growing perception that dirty politics has come into play and National Conference has once again exhibited its traditional scheme muzzling the voice of opposition both in and outside the State Legislature and its intolerance towards opposition. How could House Committee single-out Ansari and trap him in the net of his own creation when NC top brass itself has raised huge constructions along-side by-pass from Panthachowk to Parimpora?. Secondly what were the terms of reference to the House Panel when it was constituted on none other than Ansari's assertion that wetland was being encroached upon and measure should be taken to save wetland in Kashmir? Why the terms of reference were enhanced latter on and on whose behest?. Why directions were passed even after one of the members Nizamuddin Bhat staged walk out? Why the decision was not deferred to evolve consensus within the committee members? And last but not least why the committee did not recommend action against the encroachers of wetland? These and many other unanswered questions make it abundantly clear that the decision to lock Ansari's automobile showroom was politically motivated and it is also clear now that the directions of the House Pannel came only after two days of PDP's grand rally at TRC Srinagar implying that the direction was not less than a ploy against PDP.
