Interactive session on perspectives associated with pharma sector held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 4: Pharmaceutical Manufacturer's Association organized an interactive session on regulatory perspectives associated with pharma sector on the other day with an objective to create awareness about the significance of pharma sector. Dr G N Singh, Drugs Controller General (India) was present on the occasion who in his key note address spoke about the significance of pharma sector but expressed concerns over the slow growth in India. He shared his vision that India is going to replicate USA where pharma has contributed to a stable economy. He said that the challenges before the stake holders associated with pharma are getting bigger since the exports are matching indigenous requirements vis-a-vis value. He suggested the manufacturing fraternity to maintain availability of high standard medicines at an affordable cost. Dr Singh shared his experiences as Secretary cum Scientific Director Indian Pharmacopoeia commission where Scientists are putting effort to harmonize the Indian standards to match with the international practices for their wider acceptability at national and international trade by way of continuously updating of the Indian Pharmacopoeia. He said that CDSCO conducted an exercise to evaluate the extent of availability of spurious and sub standard drugs in the domestic market and the result was more than satisfactory as less than 0.04% of the samples out of 3000 were declared spurious. The overall trends of not of standard quality drugs reported by various government testing laboratories is within the tune of 5 to 6%. It is showing significant reduction in terms of % vis-à-vis trends existed about 10 years back which was of the range 8-10%. Satish Gupta, Controller Drugs & Food Control Organization described Dr G N Singh as a noble human being who is keen to see that India matches the developed world when it comes to Production of Pharmaceuticals. He expressed satisfaction with the working of pharma industry existing in the state. Satish Kaul, President, JK Pharmaceutical Manufacturer's Association while speaking on the occasion expressed hope that the Apex body in Drug regulation shall extend all possible help to address the issues of Industry and further provide logistic support to address various issues pertaining to local manufacturers.
