Gaddi Sippi tribes demand special educational package | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT BHADERWAH, Aug 5: A meeting of the All J&K Gaddi Sippi Tribes Welfare Association was held at Bhaderwah under the chairmanship of its State President Prof B P Singh Chouhan. While addressing the meeting, Prof Chouhan asserted that Gaddi and Sippi tribes are Shepherds by profession and dwell the far flung high altitudinal and difficult mountainous tracks of the state where sufficient meadows and pastures are available for grazing of their large flocks of goats and sheep. These tribes are destitute, semi nomadic gypsy tribes living a miserable life full of abject poverty. Their distantly located inhabitations, inter-alia, lack educational facilities due to which the literacy rate is very low among these tribes. He further contended that Gaddi and Sippi tribes are the most backward of all sections of the society in J&K and deserve special attention of the state Government for their upliftment. He attributed their backwardness to very low literacy rate among these tribes. Asserting that education is the foundation for the development of any section of the society, Prof Chouhan demanded special educational package for the students of downtrodden Gaddi and Sippi tribes. He called it very unfortunate that no heed has been paid by any of the state Governments towards promoting education among these tribes. |
