Ladakh region cut off due to landslides | | | early times report Srinagar, Aug 5: The Ladakh region was cut off from rest of the state since last evening due to landslides, triggered by heavy rains in Zojila sector. Official sources said heavy rains yesterday triggered landslides in Zojila sector, forcing authorities to suspend traffic on Srinagar-Leh highway, the only road linking the Ladakh region with the rest of the state. They said Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway, has already pressed into service men and sophisticated machinery to put through the road. A large number of vehicles, including those carrying passengers, are stranded on either side of the Zojila pass. However, they said, the traffic will resume only after receiving green signal from the BRO and traffic police officials deployed on the highway. |
