Cong asserts by setting records straight | | | early times report Jammu, Aug 5: Congress has asserted itself by asking Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to consult party ministers in administrative matters. Pradesh Congress Committee president Saif-ud-din Soz said Omar Abdullah should discuss the matter of infant deaths with the medical education minister RS Chib. The CM has on his own making statements and discussing the matter of hospital administration without even consulting Cong ministers, who is the point person on this account and with the daily handling of the ministry in a better position to assess the situation and take corrective measures. The Congress assertion comes at a time when the state unit of the party has been pressurizing the party high command to direct Omar Abdullah to give back ministries of the Cong quota held by him for long time. The party high command has taken cognizance of the view point of the State leadership and will be asking the CM to act on it very soon. Soz has in the past also locked horns with the Omar Abdullah especially on the issue of revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and had received the support of the Central leadership on this account. In the backdrop of the past, the statement of Soz reflects the official view of the party and can't be taken lightly. Congress like National Conference has an equal share in running the government and its ministries carry equal status with the counterpart in the NC. Soz by this statement has also tried to make the point that party can be belittled by the whims and fancies and politically immature leadership of the NC. The party has been making serious efforts to establish its base in the Valley and surprisingly getting good response. It's for this reasons that PCC president has tried to set the record straight by rightly saying that minister entrusted with the job should be allowed to work in his own way and its credit shouldn't be taken away by the CM if he tries to improve the things. The deaths of infants at GB Pant hospital has become a political issue and also on this account hold political potential if things improve there which a active political party can't ignore. |
