BJMM demands white paper on construction labour law | | | early times report doda, Aug 6 : The J&K government should issue a white paper stating whether it has implemented the 1996 Construction Labour Law and collecting cess tax of 1% in the state. This demand was made by Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Mahasangh (BJMM) National President and former Union Minister Prahlad Patel while addressing 1-day conference of unorganized sector at Jammu alongwith BJP State President Sham sher Singh Manhas. The day long conference which was organized by J&K Chapter of Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Maha sangh commenced with the traditional lightening of lamp by Prahlad Patel Speaking on the occasion, Patel said that it is indeed very unfortunate that the unorganized labour class in the state of Jammu & Kashmir has been totally neglected by the government which is not less than a crime. Hence, it become imperative on part of the government to issue a white paper containing information regarding implementation of laws enacted for the welfare and protection of their rights. He said the government should ensure free higher and technical education to the children of labourers so that they are in a position to earn their livelihood. Prahlad Patel, while rejecting the entry of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector, said that such a decision will prove to be disastrous for the unorganized labour class. He demanded a monthly pension of Rs 1500 to each labourer of unorganized sector after one crosses 55 years of age or becomes incapable of physical work. Shamsher Singh Manhas said that both-organized and unorganized sectors in J&K have been made to suffer due to the indifferent attitude of the government towards them. Non-implementation of the central laws in the state under the garb of special status, has posed challenge to their survival, which is indeed unfortunate. |
