Democratic decentralization of powers ensured by empowering PRIs: Sagar | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 6 : Maintaining that the government has fulfilled its promise of empowering the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI), the Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar has said that by doing so we have ensured the democratic decentralization of powers besides giving a befitting reply to the detractors of the system. The Minister was addressing a huge gathering of Panchs and Sarpanchs of Kupwara district at a one day interaction organised by the department of Rural Development to oversee the status of implementation of the orders of the empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions and also the status of various welfare schemes Director Rural Development, Kashmir Mir Altaf Ahmed, District Development Commissioner, Kupwara Sarmad Hafeez and other senior officers of various departments were present. Coming down heavily on the parties trying to create misconception in the minds of the people, the Minister said that earlier they tried to thwart the holding of Panchayati Elections and now in the state of frustration after seeing the adequate empowerment of these institutions they are trying to spread falsehood and canards. "An amount of Rs. 284 crore has already been released for the construction of new panchayat Ghars and repair and renovation of the existing ones besides the government has already released an amount of Rs. One lakh each to every panchayat for taking small developmental works in their respective areas, "The Minister said maintaining that the panch ayati Raj representatives are also involved in execution of various flagship programmes of the department like MGNREGA, IAY etc for their effective implementation. |
