Early Times report
Srinagar, Aug 6 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today approved steel roofing of over 3,300 school buildings being constructed in the state under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to ensure their timely completion.
"Besides saving Rs 1.07 crore on construction of these buildings, the move will also ease pressure on forests on account of extraction of timber for this purpose," an official spokesman said after a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister to review centrally sponsored schemes in the education sector. Omar fixed November-end this year as the targeted timeline for completion of these buildings. "You should provide monthly status of the completion of these buildings to my secretariat," he said.
The Chief Minister approved mapping of all educational institutions in the state utilising geospatial application through Union Ministry of Science and Technology. "This will provide a complete data of the status of schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the state helping in their holistic and balanced growth and development as per the requirement," he said and added that taking to modern technology for comprehensive development in education sector is the need of the hour. Reviewing the progress of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madh yamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), the Chief Minister emphasised the need for implementing these flagship programmes with a missionary zeal and with commitment. He said these programmes are aimed at balanced growth and development of elementary and higher education in the state.
