Sham assesses losses due to rains, floods in Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 6 : Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma, today asked the officers to be prompt and extra vigilant in their services being required by the people in case of any eventuality due to heavy rains and monsoon floods. The Minister was chairing a high level meeting of officers at summer secretariat here today to review the preparedness of all concerned departments in tackling the flood situation in the region. Sham Lal directed the officers to initiate effective measures to prevent soil erosion and other damages to houses and public assets due to rains and floods. The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pradeep Gupta, District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control besides senior officers of various departments. Sham took stock of the losses caused to the people and directed the Deputy Commissioner Jammu to assess the same so that adequate releif and rehablitation measures could be taken up at the earliest. He instructed the flood control authorities to remain present at their respective sites round the clock and ensure that all urgent works are done on priority. The Minister also took of damage prone points along the National Highway and was informed by the Divisional Commissioner that there is no damage caused to the National Highway. However, some internal roads have been damaged due to recent rains, he added. The Minister instructed the Power Development Department to ensure timely repair of power equipments especially in rainy season so that uninterrupted power supply could be ensured in border and far-off areas. |
