Students prone to 'health and reptilian hazards' courtesy casual approach of authorities | | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Aug 6: It seems that concerned education authorities have adopted a casual nonchalant approach towards this vital sector, a school upto the level of Higher Secondary, located in one of the upmarket areas of Jammu city and meant exclusively for the girl students, is shockingly providing sub-standard facilities to those studying in it just after the incident when a sign board of secondary level showed a grave spelling mistake. Earlier, incident reported in 'Early Times' on Aug 4, could have been a matter of typographical mistake but deliberately ignored, however, in the case II the state of affairs in this school could befittingly be described as 'appalling' so far as an educational institution running in an urban area is concerned. Infact the tall claims of the State Government and School Education Department that the Government run schools particularly in city limits are being provided with best of facilities besides quality infrastructure to cater to the needs of the students, however, when one visits Government Girls Higher Secondary (GGHS) School, Canal Road and see the shabby looking bathrooms inside the premises of the institution it somewhat negates the official assertions. A picture of the bathrooms of GGHS School, Canal Road shot by Early Times lensman is self speaking to the extent that it does not even require words and paragraphs to explain the sordid tale of the administrative neglect of a school aimed to offer education to the hundreds of girl students of western areas of Jammu city. 'Pathetic' is another word deemed fit to explicate the condition of the toilet complex of the school as it does not have doors which are one of the basic requirements of a bathroom being used by teenage female students. Moreover, thick growth of wild weed in and around the toilet complex is another glaring neglect which could prove fatal for the students in the ongoing rainy season as wild insects and snakes are often noticed to camouflage under the cover of thickly grown bushes and grass. It would not be inappropriate to say that the bathrooms of the school situated in municipal limits are not only ill-equipped but are poorly maintained and unhygienic. This piece of a write-up is an attempt of Early Times to expose poor administration of institutions viz a viz to safeguard the interest of student community who are being denied the desired level of facilities in a Government run Higher Secondary School. |
