8/6/2012 11:35:30 PM
early times report
Jammu, Aug 6: At least seven people, including two women, have been killed and scores injured in heavy rains that led to many houses collapsing in the remote mountainous areas of Jammu region, officials said on Monday.
The flood situation was improving with water receding from major rivers, an official said. The administration has begun assessing the damage caused by the floods across the region, including loss to the crop. Road connectivity has also been restored in most areas. "So far there are reports of five people getting killed in house collapse caused by heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday," an official said. The houses have collapsed mainly in mountainous areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Reasi, Udhampur and parts of Kathua district. Besides five people getting killed under the debris of collapsed houses and over two dozen injured, "two women were killed after slipping and falling from a narrow hilly track in Gool area of Ramban district", the official said.
