Popularly known by the name of Sumit Bhaiya in the Cancer Centre in GMC Jammu, to whom the Prof Ashutosh Gupta allegedly has made incharge of Room No 3 where the records files of patients are kept in shabby conditions. Pertinently the so called 'Sumit' has no mention at all on the enrolment of Government Medical College nor has been appointed by any state recruiting agency yet he comes daily to the Regional Cancer Centre. He even has been given easy access to the records of the cancer patients in the Regional Cancer Centre, sources alleged. Ask any patient visiting Cancer centre for treatment and he.she would narrate tell tales circling around this mysterious character 'Sumit' at Regional Cancer Centre. To highlight the role of 'Sumit' in the eyes of fresh visitors to the department, an official notice from the head of the centre could be even seen at the notice board which clearly guides new patients in the centre to go to Room No 5 and Room 3. Prof Ashutosh occupies room no 5 in the Regional cancer centre and Sumit occupies room no 3 in this centre. In addition to maintaining records of cancer patients Sumit can be seen roaming around in the centre and during small breaks ferries tea and coffee for the staff members of the cancer centre. In free time he can be spotted lure patients for his boss, sources alleged. Though the junior doctors in the department has raised this issue on number of occasions in front of the hospital authorities but it seems even they are sitting with their eyes closed and not ready to take action as prescribed by rules. According to patients visiting the cancer centre Sumit is originally employed by the head of the centre in his private clinic and for last several months he is regularly attending work in the centre without remaining on the pay rolls of the medical college.
