SSRB reluctant in accepting degrees from outside J&K, candidates appalled
8/6/2012 11:36:46 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 6: Hindrance created in posting and issuing orders for teacher posts advertised by JKSSRB in Nov 2010 in erstwhile Doda district by those aspirants who got their professional degrees from outside universities is uncalled for. There are few genuine questions about the validity and legitimacy of their degrees, still they demand their place in the final selection list. Basically they have purchased their degrees from various study centres which were located in various districts of the state, sources added. Their demand is to consider their degrees for final selection for which they have already filed a case in High Court.
They also claim that they have earned such degrees through regular mode, but when investigated properly, such students were working in government and private institutions in our state during their course, so how is it possible that they can be present simultaneously at two different locations, added Abdul Kabir Malik a local of Bhaderwah. They have secured more than 90% marks in B Ed and M Ed from such universities, which is a clear indication that their degrees are not genuine because it is not easy to secure 90% marks in theoretical courses like B Ed and M Ed.
Now higher authorities should think on it and filter such students so that quality of education can be saved in our Doda district said Thakur Yudvir Singh a youth of Doda demanded investigation in whole matter. Now the candidates, who recently appeared in interviews for teacher posts from Doda district and got selected, are apprehensive about their fate. They said the candidates, who have got their degrees from outside the state have bagged somewhere from 80 to 95 percent marks. "Students who got their degrees from University of Jammu and other universities from the state have secured fewer marks due to high marking standards in these varsities," they added. The Service Selection Board (SSB) awards points to candidates on the basis of qualification and percentage secured. "As genuine university pass outs have secured less percentage they are lagging behind in the merit list," said an official of the SSB. He said the SSB didn't initially allow the candidates who had "fake" degrees to sit in the interview. "However, after intervention of the Court, they were allowed. But the Court has asked the SSB to check the credentials of the candidates before finalizing the list. According to UGC rules most of the universities from where these candidates have secured degrees are fake," he added. Sources privy to the SSB interview panel, which finalized the list of candidates, said, "It was really surprising to see the marks certificates having 90 and above percent marks. We fail to understand how a varsity can award such staggering marks to PG students. It is a matter of concern and needs to be looked into seriously." A senior JU professor while commenting on the issue said that SSB authorities should approach the Court with facts and figures before finalizing the selection and issuing the orders to various candidates. "It will mar the career of youth of students who have burned proverbial midnight oil to secure a degree," he said. Since the candidates are short listed on merit basis, the JU pass-outs are no match to the ones having degrees from outside universities. "Authorities should minutely scrutinize the certificates of outside universities and verify their authenticity," appealed Imran Hussain, a teaching job aspirant. "There are candidates who appeared with fake degrees but we need to prove that in the High Court and for that the genuine candidates have to appear before Court to plead their case which they are not doing", he said. He appealed the candidates to help the department to sort out the problem.
He further added that they will not issue appointment orders to selected candidates till day they will investigate the degrees of all candidates from concerned universities. It is also notable to mention here that many in service teachers of erstwhile Doda district have fake degrees but administration is mum the reason best known to them.
