| Shiv Sena seeks citizenship rights for WP refugees | | | JAMMU | FEB 5 Shiv Sena today came in support of West Pakistan refugees who have been fighting for the past 60 years to seek citizenship rights in J&K. Laba Ram Gandhi, a leader of Shiv Sena led the protest march of refugees towards civil Secretariat who were demanding the rights for citizenship in the state. Though the administration was put on alert to ward off any untoward incident in the rally as was being apprehended, no such incident was reported. The rally began from Press Club and passed via Vivekanand Chowk, Raghunath Bazar to Shalamar peace fully to highlight their problems. Various leaders addressed the rally and raised the problems of the refugees. Gandhi said that these refugees did not have the right to cast their votes nor they could apply for any govt. services because they did not have the state subject, as a result their children remain devoid of their rights. He said that they can’t apply for higher education and do not get the SC certificates as they are not enrolled as citizens of J&K state. Jagu Ram, Chairman West Pakistan Action Committee, a refugee said that his son got the job in CRPF but due to lack of citizenship he was rejected. He said that their delegation has met the state administration and politicians several times but nothing has been done for them. He further said that their faith in state govt. and administration has diminished because it has not done any thing to solve their problems.
