Forest deptt retrieves 1900 Kanals of encroached land | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 7: Intensifying its drive against land grabbers, a team of Forest officials led by Chief Conservator of Forest (Jammu) Ravi Kesar got 1900 Kanals of land which was being grabbed by a local at Utterbani in Samba district vacated. Official sources said that the department was approached by locals of Utterbani who expressed serious concern over the forest land being grabbed by one Rasaal Singh, a politically well-connected person of Utterbani in district Samba. Acting on the complaint of the locals, a team of Forest Protection Force (FPF) under the supervision of Minister for Forest, Mian Altaf and Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Vinod Ranjan, led by CCF (Jammu) Ravi Kesar, the then DFO (Jammu) Qamardeen and Conservator Forest (East) Roshan Jaggi carried out the anti-encroachment drive. Sources said that the land grabber had begun raising Pucca structures and would have converted the entire chunk of land in commercially saleable commodity, had the Forest Department not intervened on time. They added that police failed to provide the Forest Department requisite help and instead came up with an order, stating therein that the land was disputed and Forest Department cannot carry out anti-encroachment drive. However, Forest officials said that since they had revenue records backing them, they went ahead with the anti-encroachment drive. They added that if they would have waited, the accused would have converted the entire 1900 kanals of land into saleable form. "We waited in Sunjawan, Bhathindi and other similar areas. See the results. Had we done the same thing here, we would lost another 1900 Kanals to land mafia," said an official. |
