Jammu facing threat of loosing left over green patches to land grabbers | 'Influential developing illegal colony inside Tawi' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 7: Jammu region is faced with grave threat of land mafia patronized by various politicians encroaching upon huge chunks of land belonging to Forest Department, thus leaving not even a single green patch for morning and evening walkers. Though the department has been making strenuous efforts to get the encroached land vacated but interference of political forces is preventing it from taking up mass anti-encroachment drives. Forest officials maintain that despite their best efforts, fresh Pucca structures have come up on one side of river Tawi in the foot hills of Mahamaya forests up to the Golf Course in Sidhra. According to an official report, copy of which is with Early Times, over 300 Kanals of land belonging to forest department has been allegedly grabbed in Sidhra and Dwada area, near Golf Course and adjacent to Mahamaya temple in Bahu Range across river Tawi under Jammu Forest Division by influential persons who are working in Revenue, Police and Forest departments. Forest officials disclosed that they have been facing innumerable difficulties in getting the grabbed land vacated. They maintain that they had tried to get the land vacated about two and half years back but with the half-hearted approach of the departments, the task was left half way, following some political pressure. The land grabbers had also shown stiff resistance during operation and communalized the entire issue. To add salt to the wounds, sources said that these influential land grabbers managed to get the entire field staff which took part in the anti-encroachment drive transferred. They assert that these influential land grabbers manage to get field staff of their choice posted in these areas to carry out their nefarious designs. The officials posted in these forest strips act as facilitators of these massive land grabbing events. Hence, land grabbing in Jammu periphery continues unabated. Mostly the forest land is being usurped by mafia and sold to clientele on simple stamp papers, letter of attorney and agreement to sell, notwithstanding the fact those executing these documents in no way are the owners of the land. This is followed by raising structures- of course with the connivance of some unscrupulous elements in the concerned departments. Gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that in Jammu District, SP City south in response to RTI has admitted that total of 90 FIRs were registered in the 5 police stations falling under SP South Jammu during the period of 2005 to till date. Similarly SP City North Jammu has also admitted that there are seven FIRs registered at P/S Janipur, three FIRs at P/S Bakshi Nagar and 9 FIRs at Police Station Nowabad. Not only this the petitioner in his PIL has highlighted a brazen case of land-grabbing of Proprietary Land of two brothers namely Tilak Raj and Hem Raj residents of Chak Lalu Shah tehsil and district Jammu whose land measuring 342 Kanals and 4 Marlas comprised in Khasra Nos 1, 2, 3, 3 min, 33, 34 and 36 has been encroached by none else than the three daughters of Minister of Public Health Engineering Taj Mohi-Ud-Din. In the PIL, the petitioner has submitted that the aforesaid instances are just a tip of the ice-berg as a thorough probe will open a Pandora Box which will establish the nexus of Land Mafia with High-ups. |
