BJP concerned over lack of employment opportunities | | | JAMMU, Aug 8 : BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas today said that despite the constitution of an expert group in 2010 by the Prime Minister, youth in Jammu and Kashmir are anxiously waiting for employment opportunities. Manhas said this on the sidelines of release of a letter written by BJP senior leader & former National President Rajnath Singh to the Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal. He said that through the said letter, Rajnath Singh has invited the attention of Union HRD Minister to the key recommendations given by the Expert Group to provide 5000 fresh scholarships each year to students from J&K to pursue higher degree courses in colleges situated in other parts of India. He said that Rajnath Singh has expressed concern that the notification issued to this effect includes an annexure of colleges where the students from J&K can pursue higher studies with the benefits of scholarship but on a closer examination of the list, it is apparent that the colleges included in the list are some of the prestigious national educational institutes where very few students from J&K state get admission, thereby frustrating the purpose and aim of the scholarship scheme. Manhas said that the state BJP will follow up Rajnath Singh's demand to include all educational institutes recognized by the UGC or any other government body in list where even the average students from the J&K can get admission through scholarship. This inclusion would be of immense help to the youth living in Jammu and Kashmir. Manhas added that the government should give wide publicity to this scholarship scheme so that the students from the state are able to take its benefit. |
