Polls for new BJP State president in Dec | Over a dozen aspirants in race get 'active' | | Early Times Report jammu, Aug 8: With schedule set for election of new president in the month of December, the State unit of BJP is witnessing a flurry of activity with aspirants for the prestigious post having become active in trying to garner support at personal levels in their favour much ahead of the commencement of formal procedural exercise associated with the polls. According to party sources there are as many as 12 functionaries in the State unit who are aspiring to become president of the BJP in J&K the polls for which are fixed in the month of December this year. Even as the number of aspiring candidates is far more this time, the fact remains many of them are neither competent nor possess any 'merit' or experience that determines the choice for the post at various levels before the final elections take place. Nevertheless, they have started their own 'set of activities' at levels that matter ,sources said adding that a race has begun for influencing people in this direction. Sources say a number of aspirants who are in the forefront of contenders for the top post in the State unit are not even well versed with the organizational matters nor do they have proper understanding and grasp of the ideology, not to speak of the stand the party has been adopting or ought to adopt on complicated and crucial issues in the sensitive J&K State. However, this doesn't deter them from pursuing vigorously the political ambition of becoming the State unit chief as most of them feel and believe that it is their 'personal links' with Central leadership as also in RSS that would enable them to fetch this prestigious post. Many of the contenders feel that it is their connection at 'right places' in these quarters that may click at the time of making final decision, sources said adding that in the backdrop of this belief they are constantly trying to make themselves conspicuous with organizational activities, no matter they are hardly interested in carrying them out in real sense. This activity too, they think would enable them to earn 'weightage' in becoming president. Interestingly few of the contenders who otherwise do not fit in any manner to be a claimant or aspirant are thinking of their strong prospects in the backdrop of the internal atmosphere at present within the organization viz- a-viz certain deserving candidates and some controversies that have erupted in the past with few names, that may go in their favour. On the other hand, the sources say the sitting president is also aspiring to continue for the second term which may happen in case the party wishes so with some necessary amendments as seen having been adopted with the case of national president for his continuance on the post. The sitting president in the J&K unit has started roping in those people whom he had maintained distance in the past for one or the other reason. Whether merit or personal favours count finally at the time of making a final choice remains to be seen but the hard fact for any new president remains that it would be far more difficult responsibility and a crown loaded with expectations given the crucial 2014 year at national and State level as well. |
