AFSPA revocation a 'premature' move, re-asserts Congress | Empowering Panchayats party's resolve, says Prof Soz | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 9: At a time when the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his party National Conference is again harping on the issue of revocation of AFSPA in a loud manner, the alliance partner of the ruling coalition Congress today categorically ruled this possibility out contending that it had already made its stand clear over the issue and it firmly believed the move is 'premature' in present situation. "NC can have its own views and perception over the matter on the basis of which they have their stand in its favour... but Congress doesn't feel so... many stakeholders have given their viewpoint and opinion and any final decision has to be collective one...", said J&K Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz. " It is a premature move at present...", Prof Soz maintained while speaking to media on the sidelines of a rally taken out by the party leadership in connection with Quit India Movement awareness campaign. In what could be seen as Congress' assertion once again over its oft repeated call on 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments, the PCC chief made it louder today , taking a dig indirectly at NC for not allowing it happen, albeit in a defensive manner. "Congress wants empowerment of all democratic institutions at grass root level... this is possible only when Panchayats and other local bodies are strengthened and it is the resolve of the party to make it happen... Prof Soz said adding that Congress is pursuing the matter in its own way. To a question Prof Soz admitted that despite Congress demand on getting these amendments through the matter was being delayed, blaming it indirectly on NC. However, he regretted that it was due to lack of Common Minimum Programme (CMP) that problems like arise in coalition Governments. " It (CMP) could not be framed because things and political circumstances did not allow that in 2008... the priority at that time was forming the Government as the Assembly results showed a fractured mandate...", he said adding that in the Coordination Committee meetings such matters would certainly be discussed as important agenda. The veteran Congress leader , also an MP and a former Minister hit out at BJP over a host of the developments and remarks made its leadership against Congress and UPA in general. "BJP is a divided house and in shambles not only in J&K but also at the Central level... by saying 2014 shall have a non BJP Prime Minister they have already conceded defeat... it is Congress once again which will have its PM and form Government at Centre...", Prof Soz observed, targeting at BJP and its leaders. |
