JKCC demands reservation rights for Dalit Christians | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 10:Jammu and Kashmir Christian Congress (JKCC) has opposed the Constitution (Schedule Caste) order 1950, and its paragraph 3 in which non-Hindus were denied SC status and thus kept out of the caste based reservation. Addressing a press conference here today, JKCC president Thomas Khokhar said that the Constitution order was later amended through which Sikhs and Buddhists were extended reservation benefits, however, till date the Dalit Christians have been denied the same. Khokhar said to express the resentment of denying reservation rights to the Dalit Christians, a protest march was against the discriminatory third paragraph of orde, popularly known as Presidential order which violates the human rights of Dalit Christians on the basis of the religious faith they profess. It stipulates that no person who professes a religion different from Hinduism shall be deemed to be a member of SC community. He said that the state and central government is playing a delaying tactics, which is nothing but a political ploy. Khokhar said that the struggle of the Dalit Christians has a history of several decades. He called upon the members of different social organization to unitedly fight for the scheduled caste rights for Dalit Christians. |
