| Dr Karan Singh, BJP, others condole Thakur’s death | | | JAMMU FEB-05 Reports about condoling the death of Devi Dass Thakur, former Governor of Assam and Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, who passed away on Saturday last, continue to pour in. Former Sadre-i-Riyasat and Chairman Trustee, Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust, Dr Karan Singh and Truestees Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh and Maharaj Kumar Ajat Shatru Singh have condoled the sad demise of D D Thakur and conveyed their sympathies with the bereaved family. Dr Karan Singh, in his condolence message, described late Thakur ‘ as a great legal luminary, able parliamentarian and a renowned administrator ‘ and recalled his qualities of head and heart. Dr Singh said that with the passing away of DD Thakur, a void has been created, which is difficult to be filled in adding that by dint of hard work and talent, Thakur achieved par excellence in legal field and rose to serve on various high positions in the country. He won laurels as Governor of Assam, Judge of the State High Court, lawyer of Supreme Court and the State’s Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Singh added. State Unit of Bhartiya Janta Party in its meeting held under the chairmanship of its President Ashok Khujria also condoled the death of D D Thakur and observed two minute silence in his memory and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. Khajuria in his condolence message placed on record the services rendered by late Thakur in shaping the State’s polity and said that having born in a backward area of Jammu region, he (Thakur) reached new heights by his capability and hard work. ‘With his death, the state has lost a great legal luminary and a leader of stature,’ he said and added that his death has caused a vacuum, which cannot be filled in. Among others who condoled the death and paid tributes to late Thakur included Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Dr Nirmal Singh, Daya Krishan Kotwal, Babu Parmanand, Prof Hari Om, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Satish Sharma, Suresh Jamwal, C P Ganga, Ajay Jamwal, Bali Bhagat, Charanjit Singh Khalsa, Yudhvir Sethi, Jyoti Parkash Sharma, Sat Sharma, Ramesh Arora, Mohan Singh Chouhan, Balbir Ram, Daya Ram Sharma, Lalit Moza and Kavinder Gupta.
