Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Aug 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Shahzad Khan slammed the state government over its failure in providing good governance to the people.
In a workers' meeting held in Rajouri under the leadership of Shahzad Khan, the workers were apprised of the foundation day rally to be held on August 12 to be addressed by PDP Patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed and President Mehbooba Mufti. Khan expressed his resentment over acute paucity of water.
He said that all major sources of water like the rivers, streams and hand pumps have dried up and the provincial authorities have failed to take steps to solve their problems.
Shahzad said that the sole water system that was prepared around forty years back was for a population of about 16000 people (1971 census) and since then, the number has swelled to more than fifty thousand as per the latest census.
He said that this figure only includes the counted people and there are thousands others who have not been counted under the census report. Shahzad said that with such a high population, the water supply presently provided is not enough.
Moreover, the supply is neither regular nor even which otherwise would have been manageable to some extent.
He said that if there is regular supply of water for a couple of hours daily, even then to a large extent the problem would be addressed. The water filtration plant has not been functioning for the last more than 20 years.
Shahzad said that the water crisis is taking a toll but there is no one to pay heed to the worries of the people.
He further said that the streams and rivers have dried up and the people even do not get water to drink.
He said that alternate measures like tanks or a roaster to provide water in a turn wise manner have not been taken up by government. Others who spoke on the occasion included Maqsood Khan, Zubair Shah,Tahir Lone,Nazir Choudhary, Javid Khan, Ghani, Jhangir Khan, Rashid Ahmed, Shabir Ahmed, Mohd Sayeed, Zakaullah, Molana Ishaq, Saleem Khan, Molana Farooq.
