Rajouri, Aug 10: Even as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his Cabinet colleagues make tall claims of empowering Panchayats with their interference in at least 14 departments including ICDS, a Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of border district Rajouri has categorically refused to share the details of nutrition with Sarpanches of his jurisdiction when he was asked for. Not only this, even the said official has lodged a complaint with police station against at least 32 Sarpanches of block Rajouri for their interference in his working. The matter is being investigated by District Development Commissioner Rajouri. The Sarpanches have also lodged a complaint with Rajouri police for misbehavior of the official with them. "We have received complaints from both the sides and police was investigating the matter", said SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi when contacted.
Sources said, on August 8th atleast 32 Sarpanches of block Rajouri approached to CDPO office Rajouri to get details of the nutrition being supplied to different Anganwari centers in their block and to discuss various other related issues. As per sources when deputation of Sarpanches reached in the office, the CDPO was not present. The Sarpanches enquired about the officer from subordinate staff, the subordinate staff told Sarpanches that their officer was out of station in connection with some official work. In the meanwhile, sources said, the staff phoned to their officer and told him that Sarpanches were asking them for nutrition details. On this, the CDPO suddenly appeared in his office and directed the Sarpanches to leave his office saying that they had no authority to seek details of nutrition from his office and even they can not check any Anganwari continued hours together.
On the next day, on 9/8/2012, the said officer went to police station Rajouri and lodged a fabricated complaint alleging that Sarpanches made attack on him. Later, the matter was brought to the notice of DDC Rajouri by the Sarpanches threatening that they will go on strike if action is not taken against the officer who violated Government orders. SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi told this Correspondent that police was investigating the matter. Meanwhile, Sarpanches have threatned to launch an agitation from August 13 if action is not taken against the said officer, said Sarpanch Abdul Khaliq.
