'I have been misquoted over comments on issue'

Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 10: Refuting strongly what media had carried as his 'views' on AFSPA, the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz today said that in the changed security scenario of State, its revocation was possible and the issue needed to be taken with concerned authorities in right earnest. Prof Soz said a section of media had completely distorted his comments and that he has been misquoted over the crucial issue.
"I In response to a query during media briefing I had merely said that my stand on AFSPA revocation had got vindicated ……. I said it last year and at present believe so that it is a temporary law and it had to go……", Prof Soz said, in a defensive tone. "My stand today is that AFSPA had been adopted as a temporary law and now that normalcy is fast returning to the State, the issue of revocation of AFSPA must be taken up with the authorities concerned without losing time. …", he added.
Clarifying his statement further, Prof Soz said that he never opposed or resisted revocation of AFSPA and that when he said his stand had been vindicated he meant to say that he was in favour of holding wide ranging consultations with all stakeholders, something which has been done during the intervening period.. "What I have said last year is that this law has to go but various stakeholders needed to be consulted ……perhaps the consultations have been held during the last over one year but I do not have knowledge of details …", he said adding, 'however , today I feel things with regard to security scenario have bettered and therefore it calls for immediate steps on part of the Government to take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
Pertinently, the J&K Pradesh Congress president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz who made Congress stand on AFSPA revocation explicit during media briefing came in for severe criticism from the ruling National Conference and it was none other than the fiery leader, ever vocal and bitter against Congress, Dr Mustafa Kamaal who fired back with a statement today loaded with harsh reactions against the veteran leader.
Reacting sharply to State Congress president Prof. Saif-u-din Soz's statement on AFSPA revocation in Jammu on Thursday, the National Conference today came out with brazen allegation that Soz along with some other local Congress leaders was hatching a 'conspiracy' to dislodge Omar Abdullah Government to form a new political alliance in the State.
"Soz wants to create such a hostile atmosphere within the coalition which would eventually force NC to leave the coalition", Additional general secretary of the ruling National Conference Dr. Mustafa Kamaal said while speaking to a news agency today. He, however, added that his party won't give Soz a chance to 'rejoice' by pulling out of the coalition.
