Upset over detection of secret tunnel dug by it on IB, Pak targets Indian posts in Arnia sub-sector to facilitate infiltration | BSF jawan hurt critically | | Bharat Bhushan Jammu, Aug 11: Upset and noticeably driven to despair by the detection of the secret tunnel dug by it in Samba sub-sector which subsequently led to the foiling of its evil designs to push militants into the Indian territory through this underground path, Pakistan today resorted to heavy firing in Arnia sub-sector, targetting at least three BSF outposts and seriously wounding a jawan. The unprovoked Pak firing is seen as an attempt of the Rangers to facilitate infiltration. In the past nearly two decades, the incidents of firing and infiltration attempts have seen an abrupt jump on the two most important Indian dates -- August 15 (Independence Day) and January 26 (Republic Day). "On these two auspicious dates, the neighbouring country tries to push militants to cause bloodshed and mayhem with the sole aim of projecting Kashmir as a disputed territory and also to destablise India," a senior BSF officer said. The tunnel, which had its one end somewhere inside the Pak territory, was discovered close to the Chilyari outpost of BSF in Samba on July 28 last. It had undoubtedly been dug to push lots of militants into J&K to disturb the Independence Day celebrations, and cause violence, he added. Its detection before the I-Day, however, led to the foiling of Pak administration's evil designs. It may have remained undiscovered had it not caved-in at two to three places due to rains. Had it remained intact and undetected, there was every possibility of the militants entering India through this secret underground path. "So shaken is Pakistan with the tunnel's detection that it has started targetting Indian positions without any provocation. Their plan is now to push militants under the cover of firing," the officer said. In the past over a fortnight that followed the tunnel detection, there have been at least three incidents of ceasefire violation on the IB. The latest incident took place this evening, he informed. The officer said the Rangers from their Jabral post opened the mouth of their guns at about 6.30 pm, targetting Pindi, Pittal and Chinar outposts. At least a dozen villages, including Pindi Charka, Chanana and Changia, were affected with the enemy firing, he added. India retaliated. In the ensuing exchange of fire, BSF cop Ram Avtaar was wounded. He was hospitalised. The intermittent small arms fire between the two sides was continuing at the time of going to the print late tonight. Loss of life, or property, if any, on the Pak side was not immediately known, the officer said. |
