CPI lambasts UPA-II for ignoring common man's problems | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 12: Lambasting the Congress led UPA-II regime for ignoring the problems being faced by the downtrodden public, the Communist Party of India said that it is the duty of the government to ensure that no person should sleep empty stomach but the present dispensation seems to have other priorities on its mind. This was stated by Comrade Dinesh C Varshney, Deputy Dean, Delhi University while speaking in a seminar on the topic 'Food for All' organized by CPI at Hotel Vardan here today. He informed that Dy Chairman Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia while defending the spending of Rs 35 lakh for the repair of old toilet in Yojana Bhawan insists that Rs 26 is enough for rural individual to be above poverty line. It is a mockery that home minister is wondering why people who purchase a bottle of water at Rs 15 and ice cream at Rs 20 are protesting against even a hike of Re 1 in the price of rice and other essential commodities. However, there is a difference which our Home Minister does not seem to see. The people who purchase costly ice cream and bottled water are not protesting against the rising prices, but the common man, the labourers who is bearing the brunt is crying and protesting. He said that there should be a universal public distribution system which should include supply of food grains, pulses, edible oils at the doors of the poor. Some are shamelessly arguing that free food or subsidized food will make the people lazy, it seems that as if this nation is producing all the wealth without the blood and seat of the toiling people. The prominent persons who attended the programme included Comrade Dr G S Charak, Dr Vinay Rampal and Veteran Comrade L B Zutshi. |
