Posters warn valley women against use of 'mobiles' in public | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 12: Some unknown militant outfits through posters have asked women in Kashmir to observe 'purdah' and not to use mobile phones in public. While police said they are investigating the matter whether these posters are genuine or just a prank but panic has gripped in some areas of Kashmir. According to reports from valley that some posters appeared in valley saying 'people should ensure that girls observe purdah in public places. "If we spot any woman without pardah we will sprinkle acid on her face," handwritten posters of 'Lashkar al Qaeda' and 'Alqaeda Mujahideen' further had warned creating panic in some pockets of valley where these posters appeared as writing on wall. The names of the militant outfits, which have purportedly issued the posters, have surfaced for the first time in the two decades of turmoil in the Valley. The posters, appearing at many mosques in militancy-hit Shopian district a few days ago, threatened, "If we spot any girl using mobile phone, she will be shot dead." Police officers in south Kashmir range are, however, tight-lipped about the posters. "We are investigating the matter and it is too premature to say whether these posters are genuine or just a prank," a senior police officer said today on condition of anonymity. Pertinently some posters even warned sarpanches and panches in south Kashmir to relinquish their posts or face dire consequences. These further dictated them (Sarpanches and panches) to announce their resignation during Friday prayers. Similar posters had surfaced in south Kashmir's Tral township earlier this year, prompting some panches and sarpanches to quit. Worthwhile to mention here that earlier in July separatists organizations stealing the agenda of such terror outfits have issues 'dress code' dictates for the tourists visiting that valley. The bucks didn't stop here and then came up with another shocker and dictated terms on banning the entry of Israeli tourists in Jammu and Kashmir. Mirwaiz, chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference (M), expressing concern over government encouraging Israeli tourists to visit Kashmir had asked Government to explain why it's encouraging Israelis to visit Kashmir. Mirwaiz during Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on July 6 had stated this while reacting to tourism department conducting road shows in Israel to promote tourism. |
