NC concentrating with men, machinery on Nagrota, eying constituency

early times report
Jammu, Aug 12: With state BJP yet to consolidate itself on ground after the vertical split in the party last year when seven of its members were expelled from the party for cross voting in legislative council elections in support of NC candidate, the NC is eying to wrest the Nagrota constituency from the party in next assembly elections to be held in 2014.
The party is concentrating its all men and machinery in the constituency which returned BJP candidate to state assembly during two consecutive terms in past. The Nagrota became a face saving for BJP in 2002 Assembly elections when party though had a strong hold in Jammu plains lost all seats except Nagrota after its present MLA from this assembly segment was declared elected.
In 2002 the party received a great setback after Jammu State Morcha (JSM) which had given the slogan for a separate statehood to Jammu also contested the elections at that time. Though JSM could not win any seat but it succeeded in defeating BJP candidates to ensure the victory of Congress. Surprisingly the JSM was also having the backing of RSS of which BJP is said to be the political arm.
But in 2008 Assembly poll when the Amarnath land row agitation was in the minds of people the BJP improved its tally to 11 seats in the state assembly and it was the highest number of seats which the party ever has bagged in Jammu since its formation in 1980. Earlier in 1996 elections the party had eight seats in state assembly. But with BJP house in total disorder after the cross voting episode, congress and NC are serious to wrest their seats in coming assembly polls and the two parties leave no opportunity to expose the party before masses. It was two days back that Congress president Saif-Ud- Din Soz at a party meeting here attacked the senior and veteran BJP leader L.K.Advani and termed his statement in Parliament a result of his frustration.
Though state BJP countered the statement and paid Mr Soz in the same coin but one day later NC leadership leveled serious allegations on the party at Party meetings in Nagrota constituency which is represented by BJP. The NC which organizes two to three public meetings almost on every Sunday in Nagrota accused BJP of brokering PDP-separatist alliance to form next coalition in the state. How far the statement of NC leadership is true but one can't deny that it was deliberately given to damage the party image in constituency which remained faithful to party during two elections in the past.
Party cadres as well as RSS activists from Nagrota constituency have taken serious exception of the NC leader's statement saying that BJP was acting as a mediator between separatist and PDP is not a fact. The partymen said the BJP never tried to be a part of any alliance in J&K which does not confirm to the ideology of the party and Shayama Prasad Mookerjee who laid down his life on the soil of Kashmir only to fight secessionism and strengthen nationalist forces. They have also pressurized local representative to react strongly to it.
BJP has countered the NC for making the allegations for the coalition government's failure on all fronts especially on militancy. The BJP while countering NC said the revival of militancy in the state and killing of innocent people and displaying of posters by dreaded militant outfits has been due to the follies of coalition Government which failed completey to take advantage of conducive atmosphere which prevailed in valley year back. Instead of showing concern over resurfacing of militants in valley and taking concrete steps to counter it, NC leadership is involved in a disinformation campaign against a Nationalist Party which has stood like a rock against the separatist in the valley right from 1947.
However, the MLA is also facing the public wrath as the development works have been delayed in various villages and there are allegations that he is not pursuing them. Ram Kumar of Nagrota said that a bridge on the tributary of river Tawi was washed away at Nagrota some years back and despite the protests by people the MLA failed to take up issue with Government as road link to seven villages has snapped due to collapse of the bridge. He said if BJP fails in doing damage control the party may face serious problems as NC is concentrating in the constituency with all its men and machinery.
